What a heartfelt post! I can relate in so many ways. In the later years of my dad’s life, he preferred heavy hand-knitted sweaters over the store-bought ones. I found a store that offered hand-knit services. A hand-knitted sweater is much more expensive. When Dad asked how much it cost, I told him it was only 10% of the actual price to ease his worries. He was delight with the sweater .

I found a beautifully knitted wool shawl at a thrift store last year. It was brand new, with a small tag attached that had a handwritten name on it. I felt excited and grateful for the knitter’s craftsmanship. I had a sense of connection to the person who made it, even though we don’t know each other.
